Literacy volunteer working with student

Volunteers are the backbone of Destination: College, bringing a wide variety of interests and skills to our student-athletes. They come from a variety of neighboring communities in Westchester County, N.Y.: Bronxville, Mount Vernon, Pelham, Chappaqua, Scarsdale and the like. Many have helped their own children succeed academically and with the arduous college application process. Our 60+ volunteers give their time to make our programs and students a success.

Volunteers staff all of our programs and have come to recognize that working with our student-athletes can be a wonderful and deeply rewarding experience. Volunteers typically commit one hour a week working as reading coaches, tutors for homework help and Regents test prep or mentors in our college access and retention program.

“My kids know when people really care, and when they are just showing up. [Destination:College volunteers] really care and the kids pick up on that. Destination:College is the reason for my own program’s success athletically and academically.”   Mike Meade, Retired Head Football Coach at Woodlands High School
